Neglected bronchial foreign body in a child simulating a calcified mass lesion: challenging computed tomography diagnosis.

چکیده
Introduction The well known habit of children to place objects in mouth frequently leads to impaction of foreign body in tracheobronchial tree. It is one of the leading causes of accidental home deaths in children under 6 years. (1) The major issue involves the accurate diagnosis, speedy and safe retrieval of the foreign body. The accurate diagnosis may elude even the sophisticated physician because often the initial choking incidents are not witnessed and the delayed symptoms may mimic other common conditions, such as asthma, pneumonia, or upper respiratory tract infections. (1-3) The most common foreign bodies aspirated are food products-peanuts, beans and seeds. (1,4) Beans and seeds absorb water over time and with subsequent swelling rapidly change from partial to complete bronchial obstruction. Some organic foreign bodies cause surrounding tissue reaction, and this may result in a condition known as arachidic bronchitis.

Diagnose of occult bronchial foreign body
BACKGROUND Occult bronchial foreign body can be very difficult to diagnose early in an adult patient without acute symptoms. This report describes a rare case of undetected Chinese medicine "Coptis chinensis" aspiration for 10 long years. METHODS A case was reported that a female patient complained of a 10-year history of productive cough. A battery of tests were given to confirm the diagnosi...
متن کاملCalcified Bronchogenic Cyst
Herein, we reported the case of a 32-year-old male patient presented with intermittent attacks of mild right chest pain and dyspnea for 2 years. On contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) of the chest, a non-enhancing subcarinal cystic lesion about 6×6.5 cm was detected in the posterior mediastinum, consistent with the features of bronchogenic cyst. The lesion showed small calcific focus cha...
متن کاملForeign Body in Nasal Cavity: Panoramic and Cone-Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) Findings
Introduction: Panoramic view as a routine dental radiograph has an important role in diagnosis of other facial abnormalities accompanied with dento- alveolar structures. In this case presentation, we discuss this subject and also the efficacy of cone-beam computed tomography in localization of foreign body in complex anatomy of nasal cavity.
متن کاملGiant brain tuberculoma mimicking a malignant tumor in a child
A 6-year-old boy, with no past medical history, presented with progressive headache, vomiting, right side weakness since 3 months without fever or seizures. On examination, he was conscious with a stiff neck and right hemiplegia. Brain computed tomography-scan showed a heterogeneous calcified large mass-like lesion in the left fronto-temporo-parietal region, irregular contrast enhancement and e...

Background: This study set out to evaluate the utility of cerebrovascular virtual non-contrast (VNC) scans. Materials and Methods: Conventional non-contrast (CNC) and dual-energy computed tomography angiography (DE-CTA) head scans were conducted on 100 subjects, of which 46 were normal, 15 had parenchymal hematomas of the brain, 13 had ischemic infarction, 22 had tumors, and 4 had calcified les...
